23 Jan Healthy Family Sleep
Rest assured, a TLC semester will never go by without dedicating a week’s Parent Topic to Healthy Family Sleep. Yes, we are all in different places in terms of the quality and amount of sleep we are getting. Many TLC parents are waking numerous times a night providing necessary feedings. Some families are enjoying a “full-night’s” sleep but feeling at wit’s end at nap time(s). Or maybe you are a parent of a little one experiencing separation anxiety and need to stay (very) close by until she falls asleep. Or perhaps, your not-so-little one has begun having nightmares or even night terrors.
No matter where you are on your family sleep journey, know that at TLC we support YOU. Do take a moment before class and read this short piece by Heather Turgeon (author of the new book The Happy Sleeper, 2014). Rather than providing specific advice around family sleep problems she suggests we adjust our attitudes around sleep:
Sleep isn’t something we have to do, it’s something we get to do. It’s a luxury. We do it because it feels good, not because we’re afraid of consequences. Human beings are built to sleep, and it’s satisfying.
If your family is struggling with sleep and you need some extra support and information, please join other parents in the TLC community on February 4th for the Parent Workshop on Healthy Family Sleep YOUR Way.
