11 Oct What is “Positive Parenting,” Anyway?
Positive parenting — sometimes called positive discipline, gentle guidance, or loving guidance — is simply guidance that keeps our kids on the right path, offered in a positive way that resists any temptation to be punitive. Studies show that’s what helps kids learn consideration and responsibility, and makes for happier kids and parents.
It will be helpful for all TLC parents to have a parenting framework in mind before we turn our attention to handling specific challenging behaviors (such as tantrums) and/or common hurting behaviors (such as hitting, pulling, biting, and throwing). This week in our TLC classes, we will have the opportunity to discuss one such framework, “Positive Parenting,” and learn what it really means. In preparation for this discussion, please read the brief overview above, adapted from materials published on the Aha Parenting! website.
